Cary's environmental outreach programs provide opportunities to serve, learn, and celebrate with our community.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the following events have been postponed with new dates to be determined. For more information and resources, visit the Town of Cary's COVID-19 Information page. If you have a question about a specific event or facility, dial 311 in Cary or (919) 469-4000 outside of Town limits.

Environmentally Speaking Documentary Series
March 19 (postponed) & May 7, 2020 | 6:30 p.m.
Learn about waste reduction (March 19) and nature-based solutions (May 7) through engaging documentary films at The Cary Theater.

Arbor Day (postponed)
March 21 | 1-3 p.m.

Celebrate trees in Downtown Cary at this family-friendly festival, including education, entertainment, and activities for kids. Enjoy giveaways like native trees and wildflower kits, and enter to win for a free home compost bin and much more.

Compost Giveaway Workshops (postponed)
March 26-28, 2020
Learn about home composting at Good Hope Farm and receive free bags of compost. Sign up for a workshop at myCary.org.

Spring Litter Sweep (canceled)

Volunteer to keep Cary clean and green! We provide all the supplies you'll need with shift sites around Cary.

Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Sale (postponed)
April 9 - May 9, 2020
Order a compost bin, rain barrel, or composting accessory at below-wholesale cost during our annual online sale and pick up your items from a Town facility.

Cary's Earth Day Celebration (canceled)
April 25, 2020 | 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day at Spring Daze in Bond Park with free trees, green crafts for kids, and Q&A with environmental experts.

Cary Green Neighborhood Program

As a continuation of the long-standing Block Leader Program, the Cary Green Neighborhood Program offers a wide range of action-oriented projects for individuals and groups to make meaningful environmental impacts in their communities. Projects can take place in neighborhoods, schools, places of worship, or anywhere you build community.

Community Gardens and Urban Agriculture

Join us in growing a more sustainable future through community gardening and urban agriculture. Learn about how you can grow green by creating a new community garden in Cary or participating in an existing garden program.

Environmental Education

As a sign of our commitment to being good stewards of our finite natural resources, we provide useful environmental education options to our community. Students of all ages can learn more about living green the Cary way with our available workshops, facilities, and teacher resources.

Each year we host free environmental outreach events that make it fun and easy for our citizens to learn more about living green in Cary. These events offer opportunities to participate locally in national celebrations, reduce waste and maintain the environmental health of our community.

Environmental Volunteering 

In support of our culture of conservation, we support environmental volunteer options to help keep Cary clean and forever green through our Spruce and Adopt a Spot programs. Our award-winning volunteer programs connect thousands of volunteers every year with diverse service opportunities, helping to make Cary one of the best places to live, work and play!
