2009 Teen Forum

Cindi King presented two potential ideas for the 2009 Teen Forum theme.

Taking Care of Business

A career fair which would include sessions on dressing for an interview, interview skills, how to present yourself and resume writing.  At the end business would be onsite to conduct interviews for summer jobs.  Carlotta also suggested that skills such as being able to operate office machinery and memo writing would be very beneficial.  The committee felt that this wouldn’t apply to the middle school age participants, but might be a good thing to do as a workshop or class in addition to the Forum.

Fit Community/Fitness

This topic could include sessions on eating properly, ways to keep fit, leading a healthy lifestyle, etc.  There could also be a health fair with booths where participants could get information on fitness and health.  The committee felt this was a good option as it would include the middle school age group, it’s a topic that’s often overlooked in teens and would present a wide variety of session and information booth options.

Sister Cities International Youth Summit

This event will be held July 16-19 at Rockhurst University in Kansas City.  The event theme is community service. Any committee member age 16 & up interested in attending should let Cindi King know by May 1st.

Joint PRCR Advisory Board Meeting
There will be a joint meeting of the citizen advisory committees and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Advisory Board on Monday, May 5th at the Page Walker Arts and History Center.  The meeting will begin at 6:15pm and dinner will be served.  Teen Advisory committee members are encouraged to attend and should RSVP to the email that was sent out today.

May/June Meeting Discussion
