Order of Business
Teen Forum
Event Poster
The sample event poster was given to the committee for their review
and input.
Suggestions:
Fill in blank space on poster with another picture, by shifting text box
or including more specific information on door prizes (when available)
Change color of the title and make larger.
Sessions
Staff is working with presenters to establish formats for the sessions
and address any logistic needs they may have. Staff reported that
there will be a cost associated with the drumming session and a sponsor
may be sought to help with the cost.
Logistics
The logistics work team needs to divide up the list of restaurants and
begin making contacts in early January.
Sponsorship
The sponsorship work team should plan on getting letters out to
potential sponsors in January. The work team should also check
their calendars and let Marla know their availability in January to meet
with potential sponsors.
Marketing
The committee discussed attending local youth organization meetings to present information
about the Forum. Suggested organizations included the Raleigh Youth Council,
YMCA youth
leadership group, student government, school clubs and organizations.
Staff also challenged the Teen Advisory committee members to each get
five of their friends to attend the event. The committee requested
a computer file of the event flyer that could be emailed
out.
2007 Committee Goals
The committee discussed goals for 2007 and ways to achieve those
goals.
Suggestions:
Increased teen participation in Town government.
Setting an example that teens can be involved and have a voice in how
things work.
Inspire enthusiasm among teens to become involved in Town governance.
Ways to Achieve these
goals:
Teen Forum
Educate teens on how government works and how they can become involved.
Expand teen participation to include representation on all Town boards
and committees and develop a plan to get that information back to the
Teen Advisory Committee.
Put together a list of issues that are relevant or of interest to teens and
make recommendations/give feedback to Town government.
