A.         Call to Order – David Lindquist, Vice-Chair

            The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

 

B.         Roll Call - Absentees

Report from Chair

·      Reminder of Volunteer Picnic on September 30, 2007 at Bond Park in the Kiwanis Shelter from 4pm6pm.

·      Public meeting for Old Cary Elementary on October 2, 2007 at Page-Walker beginning at 6:30pm.

·      The Cultural Arts Committee will be having a joint meeting with PRCR Advisory Board on October 16, 2007.  The meeting time will be 6:30pm and the location will be announced.  (Since determined to be at the PRCR Administrative Conference Room #11130 at Town Hall).

·      Website re-design handout

·      PRCR is currently working on the re-accreditation process.  Every five years a team comes to assess the department.

 

C.         Adoption of Agenda

ACTION:  Paul Wasylkevych made a motion to accept the agenda as written.  Ginny Trautman seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

D.         Adoption of Minutes

·      August 14, 2007

ACTION:  Paul Wasylkevych made a motion to approve the August 14, 2007 minutes.  Philip Shepard seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

E.         Old Business

·         Old Cary Elementary Program Planning - Clearscapes

v      See Clearscapes notes below.

 

·         Lazy Daze Cultural Arts Row Recap

v      David Lindquist provided a handout on the Cultural Arts Row at Lazy Daze for the Committee to read.

v      David explained that he would not be able to attend either festival next year and would like for someone else to take the lead.  He will offer any assist or answer any questions for the person that coordinates for 2008.

 

·         Process for soliciting feedback at events and activities

v      Deanna Kerrigan explained that volunteers’ comfort levels with asking questions of people are different and it is important to make the volunteers feel comfortable at the same time be consist with how we solicit feedback.  The Committee discussed several options including training volunteers and using the Teen Council.  The Committee also agreed with the importance of soliciting feedback at a variety of events.  Deanna will put together a list of events and have Lyman Collins and Denny Hoadley review.

 

F.         Staff Reports

·         Sara Maultsby, Page-Walker Arts and History Center Supervisor

v      The Cary Youth Video Project is a summer camp offered to kids ages 13-18.  This camp guides a group of teens through the process of producing its own video.  Sara showed the Committee excerpts of the two films that were produced this summer.  The Committee suggested a premiere with past students coming together to view all of the films made.  Staff agreed it is a great idea to consider for next year.

v      Marvelous Music Series line-up for 2007-2008 Season

Ř             Saturday, November 10, 2007 – Mr. Jack Daniel’s Silver Comet Band

Ř             Sunday, December 9, 2007 – Chestnut Brass

Ř             Saturday, January 12, 2008 – Bettye Lavette

Ř             Friday, April 11, 2008 – QuinTango

Ř             Saturday, March 8, 2008 – Charlie Chiklis and the Moonlighters (bonus concert & swing dance).

v      Distributed a handout with the marketing approach for this series.

v      Sarah will be attending a conference to gather ideas for the 2008-2009 series.

v      Fall Sertoma Series

Ř             Saturday, September 8, 2007 – Transit – excellent attendance

Ř             Friday, September 14, 2007 – Cary Town Band – was cancelled due to rain

Ř             Sunday, September 16, 2007Africa and the Blues – worked with Darrell Stover; with Page-Walker the attendance was good.  Also, Darrell had a Blues History class the next day, which helped with marketing.

Ř             Sunday, October 4, 2007 - Open Dream Ensemble presents: Max and the INDEXICON

 

G.         Liaison Reports

·         Festival Committee Report – Mamta Bisarya

v      Lazy Daze was a success and exceeded revenue projections.

v      The attendance was between 40,000 – 50,000 people.

v      Lazy Daze ranking has moved from 23rd to 13th, which is a huge success, considering it is the only 1 day show in the top 20.

v      Spring Daze 2008 will be April 26, 2008 and Lazy Daze 2008 will be August 23, 2008.

 

·         Amphitheatre Advisory Committee Report – Gyan Gupta

v      This year has been a great season for the Amphitheatre.

v      In October the Amphitheatre will host the Diwali Festival and Gaelic Halloween.

v      Staff and the Committee are preparing for Tinsel Town.  This event will need numerous volunteers to make the event successful, please contact the SMG office if you are interested.
