A.         Call to Order – Denny Hoadley, Chair

            The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m.

 

B.         Roll Call - Absentees

 

Report from Chair

·      The new Teen Council Representatives are Rashi Bisarya, Ranjani Iyer, and Preetha Suresh.  Rashi Bisarya will be the voting member.

·      Deanna Kerrigan and David Lindquist will work with the teens.

 

C.         Adoption of Agenda

ACTION:  David Lindquist made a motion to accept the agenda.  Ginny Trautman seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

D.         Adoption of Minutes

·      June 5, 2007

ACTION:  David Lindquist made a motion to approve the June 5, 2007 minutes with Clearscapes.  Paul Wasylkevych seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

·      June 12, 2007

ACTION:  Philip Shepard made a motion to approve the June 12, 2007 minutes.  Debbie Savage seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

E.         Liaison Reports

·         Festival Committee Report – Mamta Bisarya

v      The beer garden will be located behind the library and will be open from 11:00am – 4:30pm.

v      The Lazy Daze poster has been finalized.

v      The Veterans Freedom Project will have an area at Lazy Daze.

 

·         Amphitheatre Advisory Committee Report – Gyan Gupta

v      The summer is going great!

v      The Movies by Moonlight have been a huge success.

v      The concerts are going well.

v      The 4th of July event was a success; with around 35,000 in attendance.

v      The committee is planning for the 2007 Tinsel Town.

·         Old Cary Elementary Planning Report - Clearscapes

v      Clearscapes provide the attached minutes.

 

 

·         Planning for Lazy Daze Cultural Arts Row – David Lindquist

v      There will be a new footprint for the Civic Row area to incorporate the “Take a Seat” project by Cary Visual Art.

v      Provide a guidebook for visitors.

 

·         Review of Cultural Arts Row at Spring Daze – David Lindquist

v      There have been several good ideas for improving this area.  One idea was to have a passport or punch card and give out prizes after the card has been punched five times.

v      Diamante will have an opportunity for the Cultural Arts Committee to have an information area on Sunday, August 5, 2007 from 1:30 to 5:30 pm at Bond Park.  Is the committee interested in having a table?  There were five members who said they could help.  David will provide more information by email.

 

·         Feedback on Website Redesign

v      The timeframe for the redesigned website has changed.  The goal now would be to have a new look without making changes to the content.  Staff in Public Information Office would clean up out dated information by January.

 

·         Process for soliciting feedback at events and activities

v      Staff would like the committee to start thinking of ways for soliciting feedback at events and be prepared to discuss at the August meeting.

Items Discussed

Ellie Torre and Rob Wagner presented the Cultural Arts Committee a preview of the PowerPoint

presentation planned for the Public Meeting to take place on July 17th to describe the current

status of the design efforts for the Old Cary Elementary Renovation Project.

 

Comments and suggestions from the CAC to improve the presentation were as follows:

 

1.01 Include more about the history of this particular building and site as it relates

to the Town of Cary.

 

1.02 There should definitely be a part of the public presentation that addresses

the “spirit” of the project, not just facts and figures.

 

1.03 Parking issues need to garner a larger part of the presentation time.

 

1.04 Rehearsal space was an important issue that was raised by the private

groups represented during the focus group meetings. This should be

addressed specifically in the presentation. Has this been studied in depth?

 

1.05 Current floor plan diagrams don’t call out a catering kitchen area or a box

office specifically. Including these would be helpful in understanding the

overall
