Town Website Redesign – Deanna Boone
v Ms. Boone explained the goals for the website redesign are to give
the website a fresher look, address any problems and implement new
technology. It is planned to allow staff
from other department’s access to update the website and keep the information
current. Also, add a calendar that will
have more information besides just meetings.
v The Town conducted a survey and the public is still satisfied with
the details and resource of information; however the organization of the
information needs to be improved.
v Ms. Boone explained she would like to have feedback from this
committee on the cultural arts information.
v The committee wanted better navigation and filters, provide links
to groups that the Town provides funds for, improved pop-ups and short cuts,
and improved wording.
v Ms. Boone learned from the committee the public did not associate
“This Week” with the text from the Cary Ad or The Cary News. The committee felt having wording like “What
can I do today” or “Things to do” would make it easier for the public to find
the information.
v The committee would like to have the ability to search for an
event (concerts, gallery exhibits or history).
v Ms. Boone asked for events like Lazy Daze when would you like to
see the information on the web and how long should the information stay on the
website. The committee felt 4 to 5
months in advance of the show, but the information should come down one week
after. However a list of the
participating artist should be left up for one month.
v Ms. Boone explained the timeline is to have the redesigned website
up in January 2008.
v If anyone thinks of any ideas or questions, please email Ms. Boone
at deanna.boone@townofcary.org.

Planning for Lazy Daze Cultural Arts Row
– David Lindquist
v Currently working
with Joy Cox, Festival Coordinator on planning and footprint of the cultural
arts row.
v At this time
there at 15 applications which means the footprint will need to be modified or
some groups may not be able to have booth.
v The Cultural Arts
Committee booth needs to be more presentable with better signage and display
the information in an organized fashion.
v The will be more
information next month.
v Denny Hoadley
felt staff should work hard to get all of the groups who want to participate
into the show.
v Lyman Collins
reminded the committee that the “Take a Seat” exhibit will have chairs on
display at Lazy Daze that could be displayed in that area for a draw.

Old
v Staff wanted to
know how the committee felt about the approach of the meetings. The committee felt these were reasonable.
v The committee
asked what their role at the focus group meeting would be because this is the organizations
only opportunity to meet with the architects and committee members will have
other meetings. Staff explained the
committee would be silent observers that would take notes and listen to the
responses from the organizations. Member
should bring the information back to the committee.
v The committee
wanted to know if staff would be attending all of the focus group
meetings. Lyman Collins explained he
would be attending the meetings and Doug McRainey will be at some of the
meetings.
·
Funding Recommendations Report
v The funding
recommendations made by this committee of $103,500 were accepted by the Town Manager
and Town Council and should be approved as part of the FY 2008 budget.
v The committee did
not want to forget about the high schools who requested funding and how to approach
them for next year. This discussion will
be tabled until the
·
PRCR Joint Meeting Feedback
v The committee
felt the committee presentation were too lengthy and not well focused. The suggestion for next year is 2 – 3 minutes
and broader information.
·
Review of Cultural Arts Row at Spring
Daze
v The
sub-committees suggestions were to keep the general layout, but encourage more
team play, develop a FAQ and to have a meeting to break the ice and explain the
procedure at Spring Daze.
v The committee
felt having the FAQ in advanced would be very helpful.
·
Report of Overall Committee Response to
Cultural Activities Review
v Staff distributed
a handout showing the results of the feedback form the committee completed in
April. This handout is just
informational and provides committee members with opportunities to see other
activities that are available.
