A.         Call to Order – Denny Hoadley, Chair

            The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

 

B.         Roll Call

·         Absent

·         Report from chair

v      Michael Stutz, the artist for the US 1/64 Pedestrian Greenway Bridge will be presenting his design for additional public input at Page Walker tonight starting at 7:30 p.m.  Committee Members were encouraged to attend.

v      Teen Council would like a representative from each committee to attend their next meeting to give a 5 minute presentation about their perspective committee.  The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 6:45 p.m. at the Cary Senior Center.  Deanna Kerrigan and David Lindquist volunteered to attend the Teen Council meeting.

v      Welcome and introductions were given for the new committee members.

 

C.         Adoption of Agenda

ACTION:  David Lindquist made a motion to accept the agenda with one addition under Upcoming Events for the Friends of Page Walker.  Phillip Shepard seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

v      Denny Hoadley reported that future agendas will be modeled by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Advisory Board agenda, which has a regular opportunity for members to report on upcoming activites.

 

D.         Adoption of Minutes

·         March 13, 2007

 

ACTION:  Phillip Shepard made a motion to accept the March 13, 2007 minutes with two corrections.  Gyan Gupta seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

E.         Staff Report

·         Rachel Green, Youth Theatre Coordinator

v      Winter/Spring classes are going well.

v      The rehearsal for the spring production of the Legend of Pocahontas has begun with a cast of 31 children.

v      Tickets went on sale today.

v      Scholastic Action is a magazine for middle and high school students to increase their ability to read.  A reporter from the magazine contacted staff to see if they could do an article on one of the teens involved with Applause.  The article was wonderful.

v      Summer camps are going well.

 

F.         Liaison Reports

·         Festival Committee Report – Mamta Bisarya (Lyman Collins presented in her absence)

v      Town Council approved the beer garden for Lazy Daze.

v      Money market mailer was distributed to North and West Cary advertising Lazy Daze.

v      Handicapped accessibility will be inside the park near the shuttle stop. A C-Tran handicapped accessible van will be used inside the park to transport patrons back to their cars.

v      Spring Daze traffic pattern will stay the same.

v      Teen Council will work to gather feedback from patrons attending the festival.

v      David Lindquist reported on that the Festivals Work Team is on schedule.

v      Philip Shepard noted that the Cultural Arts Committee voted to support the beer garden at the festival; however the Cary News has received a couple of letters from citizens, including Jerry Miller founder of the festival, not supporting the beer garden.  Philip wanted to make sure this area is secured and monitored.  Lyman Collins explained that Summerfest at Regency is a successful family event that serves alcohol, as well as allows patrons to bring their own alcohol.  This has not hurt the family atmosphere at these events.

v      David Lindquist explained that Kay Struffolino rotated off the committee and he needs someone to help him with the Festival Work Team.  Ginny Trautman agreed to help.

 

·         Amphitheatre Advisory Committee Report – Gyan Gupta

v      Amphitheater had an employee kick-off two weeks ago with a new emphasis on great customer service.  All employees are trained and pumped-up for the 2007 season.

v      2007 season will start with the Cary Road Race on next Saturday, Wine Festival on April 21, 2007 and Fray concert on April 25, 2007.

v      Thanks for voting for the amphitheater in the Independent weekly’s “Best of the Triangle”.

 

G.         New Business

·         Joint Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Advisory Board Meeting

v      Scheduled for May 7, 2007 at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center.

v      Dinner will be served at this meeting.

v      This meeting is an opportunity for everyone to get together and see the whole picture of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources.

v      The focus will be to start looking the Master Plan for updating.

v      The May 8, 2007 regular committee meeting will be cancelled.

 

·         Cultural Arts Overview – Lyman Collins

v      Distributed new mission statement.

v      Distributed policy statement 115

v      The committee completed the Town of Cary Cultural Arts Activities 2007 form to show what they have attended.

v      Staff will compile the list and bring to the next meeting.

 

H.         Old Business

·         Old Cary Elementary Planning Report

v      Staff’s recommendation of Clear Scapes as the firm for the Old Cary Elementary project will be on the consent agenda for April 12, 2007 Council meeting.

v       Staff will continue to update the committee as progress is made.

 

·         Funding Recommendations Report

v      The funding recommendations made by this committee of $103,500 was accepted by the Town Mayor and will move forward as part of the budget presented to Council.

·         Friends of Page-Walker

v      The Friends of the Page-Walker Hotel invite you to join us from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2007 as we open the Page-Walker Arts and History Center gardens for the 2007 concert season.

v      Tickets for the event are $40 per couple or $65 for family.

v      The ticket price will include the concert and dinner.
