Economic Development

Powers and Duties
The Cary Economic Development Commission promotes and encourages the economic, commercial, financial, industrial, agricultural, and civic welfare of Cary citizens and taxpayers by supporting the development, attraction, retention and expansion of businesses, industries, commerce, and employment within the community and region. The work of the commission is set out in the guiding principles.

Membership
The Economic Development Commission consists of 12 members, 1 of whom the Town Council designates as chairperson. Members are appointed from within Cary's corporate limits, and membership consists of 3 members representing computer technology or bio-technology related companies, 3 members representing commercial building and development businesses, 1 member representing the Cary Chamber of Commerce, 1 member who is the Cary designate for the Wake County Economic Development Commission, and 4 other members from the private sector or general public. All appointments to the commission are for three-year terms, except where unexpired terms are being filled.

Meetings
The commission meets on an as needed basis. During months where meetings are required, they are approximately two hours in length. In addition, members may be expected to spend several hours each month reviewing materials and performing research. All meetings of the commission shall be open to the public and will adhere to the Open Meetings Law and Public Records Law. Public notices will be prepared prior to any meeting of this commission.  More information on this commission can be found in its annual report.

How do I Apply?
Applications are accepted each year from May 1 through June 30 for upcoming vacancies. Applicants applying for this board are required to complete a supplemental application. Current Town of Cary employees are not eligible to volunteer.
