Nominate a Caryite for Town’s Hometown Spirit Award

  • Nominations accepted now through September 22 for Cary’s annual Hometown Spirit Award.
  • Nominees must be 21+ and demonstrate leadership and integrity, as well as at least one additional quality from a specific list of traits.
  • All nominees are recognized at the Cary Town Council meeting in November, when the winning recipient is also announced.

Cary, NC – The Town of Cary is looking for the most community-minded of all to receive its Hometown Spirit Award, an annual award that recognizes a citizen who enhances the quality of life in Cary by preserving, promoting and carrying out positive and quantifiable small town community values and traits. Cary citizens can submit nominations through September 22 using an official nomination form available at www.townofcary.org/spirit.

“The Hometown Spirit Award is just one way the Town showcases citizens who work hard to ensure Cary remains true to its small-town roots and who work tirelessly to make our Town even better,” said Julie Mitchell, Sr. Administrative Assistant in the Town Clerk’s Office.

Cary residents ages 21 and older are eligible for the award. Nominees should demonstrate leadership and integrity and be respected by peers. In addition, nominees should exemplify at least one of the following criteria: helps out neighbors and fellow Cary residents; demonstrates hospitality; promotes and preserves traditional American past-times; shows a concern for preservation and works to preserve traditions and the small-town atmosphere in the community; promotes entrepreneurship through supporting locally owned business; promotes a sense of community in their neighborhood and all of Cary; demonstrates patriotism through promotion and preservation of the country's symbols and dedication to the U.S. military, past and present; and serves the community through business.

At the November 16 Council meeting, the Town Council will recognize all nominees. The 2016 award recipient Sheila Ogle will join Mayor Weinbrecht at that meeting to announce the 2017 award.
