Recycling

The Cary Recycles program includes all Town of Cary solid waste customers and individually owned multi-family complexes. The Town collects recycling every other week on the same day as garbage and yard waste collection. Find your collection day on the Town’s Web site by using Maps Online.

Recycling Carts and Bins

The Town provides residents with a 65-gallon cart for recycling. Everyone who receives a rollout cart should place all items for recycling inside their cart for every other week curbside collection. Excess recycling that will not fit inside your cart can be taken to the Citizens Convenience Center located at 313 N. Dixon Ave. at no charge. Learn more about the proper use of your rollout cart and how to order additional carts.

Cary residents living in a multi-family complex with 3 or more attached units are being offered a choice to either receive a new recycling cart or keep their existing 18 gallon bin. Get details.

Every Other Week Recycling Collection

The Town collects your recycling at the curb every other week on the same day as your current solid waste collection day. Automated trucks are used to pick up your recycling similar to the automated trucks that collect your garbage. Automated collection is the safest, most efficient, equitable and economical way for the Town to collect recycling. Remember, your garbage and yard waste will continue to be collected every week.

The Town has also partnered with Waste Management Inc to provide a simple solution for recycling empty inkjet cartridges, old cell phones and cell phone batteries. Citizens can mail in these items for recycling by picking up a postage-paid plastic bag from the Public Works and Utilities Department, 400 James Jackson Ave. in Cary. For more information, call (919) 469-4090.

The Town holds year-round workshops and special events, including the Earth Day celebration each April, to demonstrate the benefits of recycling. America Recycles Day is every Nov. 15.
