Duke Fab 4 Invitational - September 17-19
CARY, N.C. College tennis returns to the Cary Tennis Park this fall with the first Duke Fab 4 Invitational. Four players from each team will be competing in this fall classic. Men’s participating teams include five of last season's top 25 men's teams. The full line-up is as follows: Tennessee (2), Louisville (13), Duke (14), UNC (20), Wake Forest (22), Virginia Tech (24), Indiana, South Carolina, NC State, and VCU. The Women’s side also showcases five of last year's top 25 teams: Duke (9), Northwestern (7), Princeton, Purdue, UNC (3), Florida International, Wake Forest, Texas (16), Wisconsin, Alabama, Illinois (24).
McCarthy Earns Three Gold Balls During Summer National Championships
A tropical storm named Kaitlyn McCarthy made her mark in South Florida, partnering with Kenya Jones of TN she captured the Girl’s 12’s doubles title at the National Clay Court Championships. The duo overcame a great start by runner-ups Jada Hunt of CA and Maddie Pothoff of AZ before turning the tide and taking the National Championship by a score of 0-6,6-3,6-3
Fresh off her 1st national title in July, Kaitlyn McCarthy had sweep on her mind heading into the National Girl’s 12’s Hard Court Championships in Alpharetta,GA and she earned the double Gold which included her 1st National Championship Singles title. After a 6-3, 6-2 semifinal win over Catherine Bellis of CA, McCarthy completed the championship run with a 6-4, 6-0 defeat of top-seeded Sophia Kenin of FL. The tourney sweep included a second Gold doubles (in the last month) as she partnered again with Kenya Jones to defeat runner-ups Caroline Dolehide of IL and Zoe Spence also of IL by a score of 6-1,6-4.
Kodali Collects the Trifecta (Gold, Silver and Bronze) at the Summer National Championships
Anudeep Kodali earned his first Gold Ball by capturing the singles title at the National Boy’s 12’s Clay Court Championships in Winston-Salem. Kodali came back from a set down in both the semifinal and championship final. In the semi-final’s he bested Robert Levine of NY 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 and in the final ousted Nathan Ponwith of AZ 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. In doubles Kodali partnered with Abhim Sharma of GA earning a runner-up finish and Silver Ball. The duo came up short versus Levine/Ponwith in the championship final 4-6, 4-6.
Continuing his hot summer play, Anudeep Kodali earned a Bronze Ball by capturing 3rd place the Boy’s 12’s singles title at the National Hard Court Championships in Little Rock, AR. Kodali was ousted in the semi-final’s by Robert Levine of NY 6-2, 2-6, 7-6. In the 3rd place playoff he beat JaeHwan Min of CA 7-6,6-1.
