DID YOU KNOW?
Stormwater Tip: Fall is approaching and lawn maintenance is right around the corner. Don’t throw away your investment! When fertilizing your lawn, never apply lawn chemicals before heavy rains that would wash them into our streams and lakes. Help protect our water resources by always applying lawn chemicals and fertilizers during dry periods or a few days before light rains are expected. Today’s quality lawn care products are time-released and will seep into your soil slowly. So, don’t throw your hard earned cash down the storm drain. If you use a lawn service, ask how they check your soil to ensure that they are applying the correct type and amount of lawn treatment. Also, homeowners can obtain free soil analysis from the NC Department of Agriculture. The report will provide information on soil nutrients, levels of sodium, pH and acidity, and soil class, and offer fertilizer and lime recommendations specific to your lawn. Contact the Agronomic Services – Soil Testing Section at (919) 733-2655 for a free kit or contact Charles Brown, Stormwater Program Analyst with the Town of Cary, at (919) 469-4038. You can also learn more about Town of Cary Stormwater Services at our booth at Cary Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival.
